  • The Name is ...

Nadia bint Mahrus

  • Where Do You Come From?

Egypt

  • Phsiognomy & Physique? What Do You Look Like?

Black hair, very straight, brown skin, near-black eyes. Slender build.

  • What Was Your Youth & Childhood Like?

The daughter of a midwife who claims to carry on part of the tradition of Isis, Nadia decided she wanted to be more than a mere midwife. To do so, she had to leave Egypt and ended up at a medical school in Europa, where she still found things to be a struggle, magic or no magic. Especially as she retains an interest (albeit not universally) in dealing with "women's complaints." Oh, and she got in on a scholarship and was often seen as a "charity student."

  • What Are Your Virtues?

Stubborn almost to a fault, Nadia has a firm belief that women are equal to men, and is willing to live it. Nothing will make her give up. She is curious and bright, and often seeks to understand more of the world.

  • What Are Your Vices?

That curiosity of hers can get her into trouble. She also has no tolerance for stupidity or anything she perceives as it, and can sometimes be provoked into rashness.

  • What's Your Style?

Despite her origin, Nadia has adopted Europan women's dress, and tends towards an elegant style. She has a fondness for hats, and often cannot resist another acquisition if she can afford it.

  • Are You Dashing or Demure? (two words)

Elegant and Determined

  • What Do You Like?

Learning about the natural world, about biology, and about how magic relates to both

  • What Do You Dislike?

Bullies, sexism, and narrow-minded people in general, especially those who tend to put religion before perceived truth.

  • What Really Matters to You?

Being a healer, but also being knowledgeable about the world.

  • What principle do you value most in life?

Ironically, for a sorcerer, science, and seeing how things really are.

  • What is your most treasured possession?

A rather battered book of herbs and spells her mother gave her.

  • Who do you value most in the world?

Her mother, and Lady Sarah Grey, an Englishwoman who was one of the few other female students in her class. The two formed a bond.

  • You Stand With Me, Or ...
  • Who or What is your nemesis?

A professor, Dr. Donald Meacham, who did not think the young Arab woman should ever have been admitted, not so much because she's a woman but because she's an Arab. He still tries to tell people that she was a "pity student" and shouldn't have ever got her license.

  • What are your Alliances?

Sarah Grey, wealthy, English, and determined to start her own Women's College of Medicine - at which she would like Nadia to teach some day.

  • Ah, Love!

No thanks. Really, no thanks. The only way Nadia would allow herself romance is with somebody who would treat her as an equal - and she's found few women and fewer men see her that way.

  • And Ambition!
    • Social: To overcome prejudice for herself in the hope that it will aid others.
    • Professional: To become a noted physician, treat women (mostly), and maybe teach one day.
    • Romantic: Nada.
  • Languages: Arabic, Spanish, Latin, French
  • What event or action in your life do you regret most?

Admitting that she used magic in front of Donald Meacham. It only made him hate her more.

  • What event or action in your life are you proudest of?

Getting her license to practice medicine.

  • Now, Tell Your Story
