History
Eva was born in Park Hill, the daughter of a barkeep and an elementary school teacher. With neither parent well paid and two younger brothers who also needed feeding and clothing, it was not an affluent childhood, although she was above the level of those forced to, say, squat in Orktown.
Her parents were devout Catholics, but Eva questioned that faith early, given the reality of magic in the world, although she was never inclined to study it. Instead, she wandered into the workshop of an auto mechanic and discovered her calling, and it was one her parents were not inclined to argue with. The world would always need engineers, technicians and people to fix and build stuff, after all. They hoped she'd have a better life.
Which, for a while, it looked like she would. She got a partial scholarship to MIT&T, which would allow her to graduate with loans merely crippling, rather than Sisyphean. But she became rapidly disillusioned by what she saw of the corp kids around her, learning more about how broken the system was, and wondering where she might apply a wrench to fix that. She also met Gina - Queen - a former military test pilot who had ended up in a wheelchair. The two became fast friends - and started plotting together ways to improve the world...and pay off Eva's student loans.
