Background

The act of raising a city has a multitude of inherent challenges, none of which are alleviated when that city is built in the ashes of its predecessor. Such it is that the city Shibbati grows, fueled by the ingenuity and clever invention of a legion of Kobold engineers. By their hand has the city been born anew. But such wonders are not without their own unwanted fallout. For each tower that scrapes against the sky there comes an equally sized pile of stone and metal left over from the construction. Here enters the Breakers Guild; an organization of men and women that earn their livings by collecting and recycling these materials for future use. Often this role carries them into the absolute depths of the city and there the hammers that serve as their badges of office become weapons against the scum that reside there.

Gil Odalis is one of these Breakers. Born of a Thulite woman and a Citrine man, he was raised within the walls of the Grand Sultanate and largely unaware of his mothers savage ancestry. Rather, he became embroiled in the surge of progress that had taken hold of the Citrine Wastes. While his parents spent their time organizing a shelter for wayward children, Gil was totally absorbed by the wonders of cities Kodold architects. His days were spent studying the practical aspects of the cities design while nights passed with sleepless dreams of the day he too could join the builders in their work.

Unfortunately, time passed and it soon became apparent that the poor Odalis boy simply lacked the mental capacity to see his dreams to fruition. While it was true that he had developed firm grasp on the basic concepts of the cities structure, he proved unable to apply that knowledge in the ingenuitive ways necessary to stimulate its continued growth. There was a compromise, however, and it came in the form of the Breakers Guild. They offered Gil the opportunity to work alongside his heros, though in the ironic capacity of destroying the old and unwanted to pave the way for new construction.

Gil is a large, muscular man with light brown skin, brown hair, and brown eyes. Though he is largely out of touch with his mother's bloodline there are still influences of his Thulite lineage evident in his appearance. At nearly 7 feet tall he towers over most normal residents of the Grand Sultanate. Beyond that he also has the capacity to call upon the primal wrath of his ancestors, though in a noticeably decreased manner.

  • Inquisitive Archeologist (Trait): You gain a +2 trait bonus on Knowledge (engineering) checks, and that skill is always a class skill for you. In addition, you gain a +2 trait bonus on Perception checks to find concealed or secret doors in ancient structures.

  • Power Attack (Feat): You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks to gain a +2 bonus on all melee damage rolls. This bonus to damage is increased by half (+50%) if you are making an attack with a two-handed weapon, a one handed weapon using two hands, or a primary natural weapon that adds 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier on damage rolls. This bonus to damage is halved (–50%) if you are making an attack with an off-hand weapon or secondary natural weapon.

When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every 4 points thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2.

  • Raging Vitality (Feat): Whenever you are raging, the morale bonus to your Constitution increases by +2. Your rage does not end if you become unconscious. While unconscious you must still expend rounds of rage per day each round.

  • Controlled Rage (Ex): When an urban barbarian rages, instead of making a normal rage she may apply a +4 morale bonus to her Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution. This bonus increases to +6 when she gains greater rage and +8 when she gains mighty rage. She may apply the full bonus to one ability score or may split the bonus between several scores in increments of +2. When using a controlled rage, an urban barbarian gains no bonus on Will saves, takes no penalties to AC, and can still use Intelligence-, Dexterity-, and Charisma-based skills. This ability otherwise follows the normal rules for rage.
